Deciding where to stay in Cinque Terre can be overwhelming, especially if you only have a day or two to see it all. In this guide, we are sharing the best hotels for each of the 5 villages, plus an overview on the best area to stay in for your trip.
We have been to Cinque Terre many times, both on overnight stays and on day trips from nearby cities. While a day trip is doable, spending more time here gives you the chance to take it a bit slower and enjoy this beautiful national park in the evenings once all the day trippers have left.
Whether you want to stay within the five villages, in the hills overlooking the sea, or in other nearby towns, this extensive list of the best hotels in Cinque Terre will help you on your search.
Where to Stay in Cinque Terre
If you are planning to spend a night or two in Cinque Terre, you have several options ranging from staying within the five coastal villages themselves or choosing accommodation in a nearby town.
On my first visit, I stayed in La Spezia, which is the gateway to Cinque Terre. This is where the main train station is located and where you can access the local trains that take you along the coast. This is a convenient choice if you are only planning to spend a night and don’t want to carry your luggage around.
If you’re considering staying at a hotel in one of the Cinque Terre villages, here’s some more information to help you choose:
- Riomaggiore and Manarola: Both villages are known for their stunning sunset views and excellent swimming spots.
- Vernazza: This is the most popular and often crowded villages but its ideally situated near several hiking trails.
- Corniglia: Known for being the quietest village, it’s perfect if you’re looking for a more relaxed experience.
- Monterosso al Mare: The best village for beach lovers, it has a large sandy beach and plenty of hotel and restaurant options.
Beyond the 5 villages, you could stay in Levanto, only a five minute train ride north of Monterosso. It has a fantastic beach area and is much bigger than the coastal villages.
For a rustic retreat, book a room at an agriturismo in the Cinque Terre hills. This is only ideal if you are traveling by car and are looking for an authentic stay in the countryside.
Finally, Portovenere is south of La Spezia and the 5 villages, but it offers luxury accommodations and is the only place where you can find a 5-star resort in the area. While it’s a bit out of the way, it’s an excellent options if you have more than a couple of days to explore the area. Alternatively, you could spend one night here and another night in one of the villages in Cinque Terre.
